New media is a part of my everyday life. I stream radio from all across the country to hear what is being played in different areas. I also listen to a mix of news and everything through iHeartRadio and the day is not complete unless I hear a full cycle of Good Morning America. I do not spend much time watching television news and I rarely pick up a newspaper. I listen to multiple podcast to get me through the work day, most of which that talking about the current events and important sports news. Without new media my days at work would be really long and it has changed the way I live as mentioned in the picture. My phone is an extension of my hand like everything I look at is important.

Social media has influence my perspective of events by getting them to me so quickly. Most of the "breaking news" I find out about is through Twitter. Of course, from Twitter I check to see if it is posted somewhere else. There are many stories that get passed around through social media that is not true. Twitter as killed many celebrities, some times twice. So in that way it is a negative influence. The positive is that information is always ready and available.

  1. I often receive "breaking news" through my Facebook feed. I also do the research to see if it is actual "breaking news". I have seen many instances where several of my friends wildly share articles, they will be running all down my feed, only to click on it and realize that it is not a true story or reliable source. We have to have more accountability to fact check.

  2. I, too listen to different radio stations across the country throughout the day. It helps the day move along. Social media has a helped my family and friends keep in touch because we all live in different parts of the US. It is important that I get information from a credible source so I follow news outlets that have credible reputations. So many stories are posted on the Internet and you can get many variations, you can’t always take it for the truth.
    Nice Post!

  5. Yes. When the video was released of Ray Rice that was put out through TMZ and spread on Facebook it made me feel a certain way toward him even though we did not know what happened. TMZ marked it as disturbing and after I viewed it, I felt a certain way even though I did not have all of the facts. Ray Rice and his wife had gotten into a fight, to this day nobody knows why. It changed how I felt about him as a player, especially since he was coming off of his worst year.
